_ CALF currently operates the 133-acre Lowell Ranch on Plum Creek located
3 miles south of Castle Rock in Douglas County. The Lowell Ranch is
equipped with indoor and outdoor classroom facilities and a community
meeting room with kitchen. We provide 4-H and FFA members space to
raise livestock projects, and land for food production, community
gardens, and pumpkin patch which provides pumpkins for the community at
our annual Harvest Day.
Our accessible facilities and strong community and industry connections position CALF to resourcefully connect people to agriculture. We work cooperatively with all who are interested in conducting high quality educational programs, organize unique opportunities for the community to experience agricultural life, and host innovative and engaging special events. _John
and Bea Lowell, life-long ranchers and community supporters, spent their entire married life in Douglas County,
Colorado helping kids, involved in community activities and agriculture. In 2002, John and Bea created CALF as a way to preserve a piece of rural life within the suburbs and promote agricultural education.
Now ten years later, CALF carries on their vision and operates their Lowell Ranch on Plum Creek serves as an ideal venue for a working agricultural education center. Each day, all of us at CALF are guided by John and Bea's legacy as lifelong champions for agriculture and youth education that was developed through their enduring commitment, tireless work and thoughtful words. In each of their endeavors, the Lowells worked to create opportunities for youth and adults, and to help cultivate a mindset of cooperation, discipline, responsibility and personal excellence. These were the Lowell's steadfast, rural values, and are the values to which CALF is committed to carrying on its daily work of Connecting People to Agriculture. |
