Dr. G. Marvin Beeman is a Douglas County legend born and raised in Highlands Ranch. His family has lived in the county since the mid 1800s. He attended the one-room Gann Grade School and graduated from Douglas County High School. As a young man, Dr. Beeman’s earliest memories were of his grandmother, Harriet, winning prizes at the Douglas County Fair with her quilts and canned goods. He has been active in the equine world from early childhood where he rode by his father’s side (and later his wife and children) in the Arapahoe Hunt Club. He enjoyed being part of the Douglas County Fair showing and racing horses, and participating in various livestock projects.
After earning his undergraduate degree and DVM from Colorado State University, Dr. Beeman joined the Littleton Large Animal Clinic and began an unparalleled career focusing on equine lameness and musculoskeletal issues. His practice has served the residents of Douglas County and beyond for the past 66 years.
Dr. Beeman married Eunice Mabel Matthews. They have two children Laurie Ann and Grant. In 1973, Dr. Beeman joined the Douglas County Fair Board were he became the horse superintendent. His major responsibility was managing the Open Horse Show, sanctioned by the American Quarter Horse Association. In 1991, in honor of his lifetime of service to Douglas County youth and the Douglas County Fair, Dr. Beeman became an Honorary Life Member of the Douglas County Fair and Rodeo Board of Directors.
Dr. Beeman has receive numerous honors and awards within the equine and agricultural community, including being honored as a Citizen of the West, Director Emeritus of the National Western Stock Show, American Quarter Horse Association Hall of Fame Inductee, CSU Distinguished Alumni Recipient, and Colorado FFA Hall of Fame Inductee just to name a few.
Dr. Beeman’s life of achievement and commitment to youth, agriculture, and our community without question makes him a true Legend of Agriculture.
